Ritsuka Fujimaru

The newly recruited Master who must restore the Foundation of Humanity by retrieving powerful Holy Grails.

Ritsuka Fujimaru is the player-controlled protagonist of Fate/Grand Order, a newly recruited Master of the Chaldea Security Organization. Depending on the player's choice, Ritsuka can be a young man or woman. Their role is to command Servants—familiars based on historical, literary, and mythological figures—in turn-based combat. The story is presented in a visual novel format, and each Servant has their own scenario to explore. Ritsuka's journey begins in 2015 when Chaldea detects that humanity will be eradicated by the end of 2016, linked to the 2004 Fifth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki. Using Rayshift technology, Ritsuka and the mysterious girl Mash Kyrielight travel back to 2004 to save humanity.

Lore & Background

Ritsuka Fujimaru is a human Master affiliated with the Chaldea Security Organization, an expert group that observes the future for extinction events. After the sudden verdict that humanity will be eradicated by the end of 2016, Ritsuka is tasked with using Rayshift technology to travel to seven Singularities—abnormal periods sustained by Holy Grails. These range from Orleans to Okeanos to ancient Babylonia. Along the way, Ritsuka encounters the main antagonist, the Mage-King Solomon, who proclaims that Chaldea's attempt to save humanity will not matter if they fail to obtain every Holy Grail. After obtaining all seven, Ritsuka advances to Ars Paulina, Solomon's throne. In the final battle, Solomon is revealed to be the Demon God Goetia, a Beast possessing Solomon's corpse. With help from Servants who assisted through every Singularity, Ritsuka defeats Goetia. Romani, revealed to be the real Solomon, uses his Noble Phantasm to weaken Goetia at the cost of his own existence. Mash is revived by Beast IV, revealed to be Fou. Upon completion, Ritsuka is awarded the rank of Cause by the Mages Association.

In Their Own Story

The observation deck was quiet, save for the hum of the temporal engine. Ritsuka stood before the window, watching the starlight streak past as they drifted between moments in time. The Command Spells on their hand glowed faintly, a reminder of the power entrusted to them. Behind them, the silhouette of a shielder waited patiently. 'Are you ready?' the voice asked softly from the darkness. Ritsuka turned back, offering a small smile that carried the weight of worlds saved and scars earned. 'Always,' they replied. The timeline awaited repair, and there was no time to rest.

Reader's Guide

Ritsuka Fujimaru is the player's avatar in Fate/Grand Order, a Master who commands Servants in turn-based combat. The player commands a party of up to 6 Servants per battle: 3 active and 3 reserve. Each turn, the player is given 5 Command Cards and may use up to 3. Cards have three types: Buster (heavy attack), Arts (medium attack that charges the Noble Phantasm gauge), and Quick (light attack that generates Critical Stars). Using three similar cards creates a Chain with a bonus; using three cards of the same Servant creates a Brave Chain, adding an extra powerful attack. Each Servant has skills usable before drawing cards, and a Noble Phantasm card appears when the gauge is full. The Master also has skills and Command Spells, which recharge based on real-world time. Servants are obtained via a gacha mechanic using Saint Quartz (earned in-game or via real-money purchases) or Friend Points (which only acquire common Servants). Multiple copies of the same Servant increase that Servant's Noble Phantasm. Key relationships include Mash Kyrielight, who accompanies Ritsuka throughout the story, and Romani, who is revealed to be the real Solomon.
